Week of February 23

Congratulations to our Math Counts Team!  Mrs. Coffin led our squad to a second place finish at the regional competition last week.  Nasty roads and challenging problems couldn’t stop our Mathletes. Great work Scouts!

Our school has been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test next Monday. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. Randomly selected 8th grade students will take a mathematics or reading test. In addition to subject-area questions, students voluntarily complete NAEP survey questions. The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, which includes transition time, directions, and completion of survey questions. The information collected is used for statistical purposes only. Your child’s grades will not be affected. You can learn more about NAEP testing by reading this letter.  If you do not wish for your student to participate in NAEP testing, please notify Kevin O’Dea in writing by Monday, February 23rd.

It certainly has been a challenging cold and flu season.  Healthy habits give students the best chance at staying avoiding sickness.  Please encourage your student to maintain a regular sleep routine getting at least 8 hours of sleep, wash their hands regularly, eat breakfast every day at home or school, avoid contact with those who are sick, and limit screen time 60 minutes before going to sleep. When students are not well it is important for them to stay home. However, it is also important for students to be in school as much as possible. To learn more about when to keep your student home from school, please review the ACSD1 Illness Protocol.
