Week of December 13

It's hard to believe that 2021 is winding down and we are finishing the year with a bang! Our student leadership team has planned a series of dress up days for Holiday Spirit Week.  Each day has a theme and we hope everyone will show their Scout and Holiday Spirit by participating.

Winter break begins on Monday, December 20th.  Classes resume on Monday, January 3rd. The LMS office will be closed during winter break.  We hope you are able to relax and connect as a family over during this time.  We've been working incredibly hard this school year and it's nice to take the time to breathe and reflect as we prepare for the big push to the end of the first semester on January 21st.  We encourage families to take the winter break challenge.  This activity comes from Capturing Kids' Hearts and has some fun ways to show appreciation for each other and build community.

Winter activities are getting underway.  Nordic skiing starts on Monday and boys basketball will officially start on January 3rd.  All students must have a completed physical and signed code of conduct on file in order to practice or compete.  Participating in co-curricular activities builds essential skills and community.  If your student is even remotely interested in basketball or nordic skiing, please encourage them to give it a try.  They might just find their passion.  Also, please think snow!

It's going to be another great week at LMS.  Help us make the days count by getting your student to school each day on time.  I know it's tempting to add a day or two onto a break, but student attendance is crucial to their success. Thank you for your continued support and feedback.  We are honored that you share you student with us.

Week of December 6

Our Capturing Kids' Hearts focus word for December is responsibility.  Responsibility is the willingness and ability to take ownership of our thoughts, words, and actions. We have a responsibility to our school, family, and community to be accountable for our choices and how they impact ourselves and others.  There are many reasons to focus on responsibility.  Responsibility teaches resilience. It is not possible to persevere and achieve our dreams without taking personal responsibility seriously. Responsibility empowers us to own our actions. There is great power in being able to make conscious, calculated choices to reach goals and manage those things in our control. Responsibility teaches us to manage our time and resources. Responsibly organizing and prioritizing needs is an executive function of the brain that improves with practice.  Read more about responsibility and some fun family activities in the December CKH newsletter.

Twelve week progress reports were mailed out last week.  Please review them with your student and identify areas of celebration and areas of need.  The first semester ends on January 21.  That may seem like a long ways away, but with winter break, the holidays, and other activities, the semester will end before we know it.  Teachers are available to help students after school in Scout Learning Lab every day (except this Wednesday due to a staff meeting) and a late bus is available.  Please reach out to your student's teachers to develop a plan for success if your student is struggling.

It's never too early to order your yearbook.  Our award winning yearbook sells out every year.  Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history.  Pre-order your yearbook by going to yearbookforever.com to reserve your copy today.

We have two weeks before winter break.  By working together, we can make each day count instead of counting the days.  Thank you for sharing your student with us and your continued support and feedback.  Make it a great week!
