Week of February 22

There are two important and fun events coming up this Tuesday, February 23rd.  We will be hosting our February blended learning informational meeting from 5:45-6:30 live on the LMS Facebook page.  You can review the information we will share and the LMS administrative team will be live to answer your questions.  You'll want to stay engaged with LMS on that same night as our student leadership team is hosting a Kahoot trivia family night from 6:30-7:30.  Students and families can attend in person or virtually.  To attend in person use the QR code found in this document.  For more information, please watch this video.

Our school is moving to tier I on Monday, March 22.  We are working hard in preparation for this transition.   After we make this transition we will continue to utilize the mitigation strategies that have been in place since the start of school including mandatory face coverings, social distancing as much as possible, hand hygiene,  and increased sanitation. Our bell schedule and start and dismissal times will not change. LMS students should plan to attend school each day Monday-Friday.  If you would like your student to transition to CBVI (virtual) when we return to Tier I, please complete this form as soon as possible.

Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have been given their registration cards and should have put their class choices into PowerSchool and returned their registration cards.  Additional information about middle school registration can be found here.  If you have questions about registering for the 2021-2022 school year, please contact your student's counselor.  Rising freshmen were given their registration cards in S4S last week. You can download a copy here. You can also watch the presentation about high school registration.  If you have questions about registering for high school, please email the LHS counseling department at lhscounselors@acsd1.org

Week of February 8

There are changes to our standard schedule in the coming weeks.  This Friday, 2/12/21, is a half day for students and staff across the district.  This will not impact our students as we will have I/E from 8:00-11:00 as we normally do.  However, staff will not be in the building in the afternoon and our office will be closed.  There is no school on Monday, February 15th and our office will be closed that day as well.  Our schedule for the week of 2/15 will be: No School, B,A,B,A.  There is no I/E on Friday, 2/19/21 and students will be dismissed at 3:05 on their in-person days.

Rising 7th and 8th grade students (current 6th and 7th graders) will receive their scheduling cards for the 2021-2022 school year in S4S this week.  They should bring those home after their first in-person day to review with families and they will be entering their class choices into PowerSchool during S4S on their second in-person day next week.  If you want to learn more about our course offerings, please review our curriculum guide. If you have questions about the scheduling process, please contact your student's counselor.  We will send materials and information directly to CBVI students.  Information on scheduling for rising freshmen (current 8th graders) will come from LHS at a later date.

In general, students should not be receiving deliveries at school.  Students will not be dismissed from class to receive a delivery and if they are not available to receive a delivery, it may be turned away.  With the approach of Valentine's Day, it may be tempting to send something to your student at school. Please don't.  Deliveries are disruptive to the student environment and there is nowhere to store them.  Anything delivered to the school will be held until the end of the day and we will make our best effort to get it to your student before they leave.

Our board will be considering a transition to tier I for LMS and LHS at their meeting on Wednesday.  If we transition to tier I, we'll be ready to continue with effective instruction and mitigation strategies to serve our students the best we possibly can.  If we stay in tier II, we'll continue to provide impactful blended instruction to our students.  A transition to tier I would not impact CBVI students.  To find more information on Wednesday's meeting, please visit the ACSD#1 website.

The University of Wyoming is offering free COVID-19 tests to asymptomatic members of the public. The saliva-based tests are processed by UW's Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory and typically produce results within 24 hours.  They are being offered as a service to the community, particularly those who are uninsured or unable to afford COVID-19 tests.  These tests are not for those who are experiencing symptoms.  Please click here to learn more about this program.

Week of February 1

Wow it's February already.  Thank you for making January great.  As February is a month for love, we will be focusing on kindness for the next 28 days.  One of our greatest hopes is that our students will be kind to others. But let's face it. It's not always easy. The good news is that kindness is a behavior that can be learned. Most children learn new behaviors by copying those around them; we have a powerful opportunity and responsibility to teach kindness by example. Let's work together to teach and model kindness for each other this month.

One idea is to become kindness secret agents. As a family, make a list of 25 random acts of kindness you can accomplish this month. Become kindness secret agents and complete as many of these acts of kindness as you can before the end of February. Each night share as a family which ones you accomplished that day and the reactions you received from others.  You can read about this idea and others in this month's Capturing Kids' Hearts newsletter.

It's a shame the Buffalo Bills didn't make it to the Super Bowl this weekend, but we are celebrating anyway.  Students and staff should show support for their favorite NFL team by wearing their jersey, or other team apparel, on Wednesday and Thursday.

With the approach of Valentine's Day, it may be tempting to send your student something at school.  Students are not to receive deliveries at school.  Deliveries are disruptive to the learning environment.  Anything that is delivered to school will be held until the end of day and we will do our best to get it to students before they go home. Students should also not be ordering lunch deliveries as they often do not arrive during their lunch.  Deliveries attempted when students are not available will be turned away.

  • February 3-4 Jersey day

  • February 5 Ice skating enrichment activity

  • February 15            No school

  • February 25 Six week progress reports
