Week of January 16

Today we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King.  Dr. King played a pivotal role in our country and we all have benefited from his leadership and sacrifice.  "We must remember that intelligence is not enough.  Intelligence plus character, that is the true goal of education."  Dr. Martin Luther King.

The Annual LMS Chili Cook-Off is Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 in the LMS cafeteria. All LMS students and families are encouraged to enter or attend. There is no entry fee and there are prizes for the best overall, most unique, and spiciest chilis.  Students from our industrial arts classes will be showing off and racing their CO2 cars. Students and families that would like to make a CO2 car ahead of time and compete are encouraged to do so. Please watch the video below to learn more about the Chili Cook-Off.  We hope to see everyone there with their favorite chili or taste buds.  We need entries and we need folks to taste the chilis and vote for their favorites. Items from the lost and found will be on display during the chili cook-off.  Things that are not claimed by the end of the week will be disposed of.

Prior to the winter break we asked students, staff, and families to complete a school quality survey.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill it out.  We appreciate your feedback and the results will be used to help us grow as a school and a district.  A summary of the district results can be found here.  Based on the survey results, we will be focusing on helping students feel welcome at school and on building pride in being an LMS Scout.

Our first semester ends on Friday.  That day is an early release for all students.  LMS will dismiss at 11:23 on Friday.  All first semester work for credit must be submitted by the end of the day on the 20th.  Students who earn failing grades may be required to attend summer school in August.  Teachers are available after school every day to assist students and a late bus is available.  Please review your student's grades with them and make a plan for improvement if necessary.  We are looking forward to celebrating our students' first semester accomplishments at Honor Roll Night on February 2nd.

Our Board is currently considering Policy 3005, Teaching of Controversial Issues.  If you wish to comment on this policy, please send your comments to info@acsd1.org and/or boardofeducation@acsd1.org. Comments will be taken until January 31st.  Please use this link or visit acsd1.org  to review the draft policy.

We are almost halfway through the school year.  Time certainly goes quickly.  We are looking forward to a strong finish to the first semester and an amazing second semester.  Thank you for your continued feedback and support. Make it a great week.
