Week of February 24

We are celebrating kindness week at LMS and our student leadership team has planned a variety of activities to promote kindness during the school day and beyond.  For example, today at lunch students wrote kind notes to their classmates.  There will be additional activities each day this week designed to spread good cheer.  The SLT also came up with suggestions for how to spread kindness at home that you can see below.  It doesn’t take much effort, but it makes a big difference so in a world where you can be anything, be kind.

We’d like to give a shout out to our MathCounts team.  They placed first in our local competition last Thursday.  The team is made up of Kaylee Li, James Montez, Sonya Patzer, Easton McGhee, and Norman Evans. Kaylee Li was first overall and James Montez qualified for the state competition.  Great job Scouts!

Scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year is underway.  Current 6th and 7th grade students have been given access to the course selection form. Please talk with your student about their schedule for next year and have them complete the course request form if they have not done so already.  Our curriculum guide and a list of electives can be found here and on the LMS website. Please click here to access the 7th grade registration form and click here to access the 8th grade registration form.  Current 8th graders were asked to submit their freshmen registration forms to the LMS main office. If your 8th grade student has not done so, please ask them to turn that form in asap. Additional copies of the LHS registration form can be picked up in the LMS main office.

The last week of February will fly right by.  Some of the days are long, but the year is going fast.  Please continue to monitor your student’s progress and encourage them to take advantage of the options for extra time and support as necessary.  We are invested in the success of each and every one of our students.  Thank you for sharing your student with us.  Make it a great week.

Week of February 17

It’s a great feeling to have our students back in the building today.  I hope the long weekend was restful and enjoyable for your family.  Our teachers engaged in a productive day of professional development yesterday and we are ready to make the most of this short week. We are starting our school week with a bit of snow.  Please allow for extra travel time during inclement weather and encourage your student to dress appropriately for the conditions.

Scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year is underway.  Current 6th and 7th grade students were given access to the course selection form in S4S last week. Please click here to access the 7th grade registration form and click here to access the 8th grade registration form.  Current 8th graders were asked to submit their freshmen registration forms to the LMS main office by the end of the day last Friday. As we prepare for the coming school year, it can be tempting to look past the rest of this school season.  We have so much left to accomplish this year.  Please check in with your student to see how they are doing and go through their grades with them in detail.  Now is the time to cement the foundation of a successful second semester.   We’re here to help and we are invested in your student’s success. Please let us know how we can be of assistance. Make it a great rest of the week.

Week of February 10

We are feeling the love at Laramie Middle School this week.  Please remember that we have an early release on Friday.  All students will be dismissed at 11:30. Unless your student is participating in skiing or basketball, they need to be off campus by 11:45.  Staff have a half day on Friday as well, so our school will be closing soon after students leave.  Our school will be closed on Monday the 17th and there is no school for students on Tuesday the 18th due to professional development.

Many of you will share Valentines with your students on Friday. We kindly ask that these not be delivered or dropped off at the school.  We will hold all deliveries until the end of the day and we can’t guarantee that students will get them or be able to take them on the bus.  Please send any deliveries to students’ homes so they can be enjoyed over the long weekend.

Scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year gets underway this week.  Current 6th and 7th grade students will receive scheduling information in S4S on Wednesday and have the opportunity to submit their course requests for next year during S4S on February 12th. Elective course options for 7th grade can be found here and elective course options for 8th grade can be found here.  More course information can be found in the 2025-2026 LMS curriculum guide. Current 8th grade students met with LHS staff during I/E last Wednesday.  There was an informational meeting for rising freshmen and their parents at LHS on Monday night.  Rising freshmen should turn their course request form into the LMS main office by the end of the day on Friday.

Part of the MakerSpace in our library is a tower garden. Recently seventh grade students were in the library utilizing the garden.  They not only learned about photosynthesis, but were also able to witness how plants can use various inputs to create reactions and grow without soil using aeroponic technology. Students observed photosynthesis in action by using a piece of technology to watch CO2 levels decrease when leaves from a plant were placed in an airtight bag. This hands-on experience turned abstract science concepts into something tangible and exciting, showing students the power of innovation in agriculture while giving them a front-row seat to the wonders of plant biology.

We’re halfway through the week and it’s been quite productive.  I hope you are looking forward to the long weekend and are staying warm.  Thank you for your continued support and feedback. Make it a great week!

We are celebrating our counselors during School Counselor Appreciation Week.  A huge thank you to Mrs. Plant, Mrs. Sommerfeld, and Mx. McCurdy for your dedication to our students and our school!

This month we are challenging our students to be kind to others, even when it’s hard. We are partnering with you to help your child grow in kindness. Most children learn new behaviors by copying those around them; we have a powerful opportunity and responsibility to teach kindness by example. This month, model kindness and empower your children to show compassion to those around them with these activities.  One way to model kindness is the 28 Days of Kindness Challenge.  Another way to spread kindness is for families to make a list of 25 random acts of kindness they can accomplish this month. Then, make a plan for how to do each act. At the end of the month, reflect and celebrate. Please read more about kindness in this month’s CKH newsletter.

Our week is off and running and it’s already fantastic.  The break in the winter weather has been a nice change. Thank you for your continued support and feedback. Make it a great week!
