Week of December 15

It’s the last week of the year!  Thank you for making the start of this school season successful. We’ve had so much success in the classroom, on the stage, and in activities already this year. Along those lines, congratulations to the 7th Grade C, 8th Grade B, and 8th Grade A girls basketball teams on winning their conference tournaments.  Great work Scouts!  We are looking forward to even more success in 2026.

Of course we’re doing a spirit week starting tomorrow.  Tuesday is flannel day, Wednesday is holiday sweater, Thursday is holiday hats and socks, and Friday is Christmas comfy.  We hope all students and staff show their holiday spirit and Scout pride by participating in spirit week.

Our December staff meeting is on Wednesday after school.  All LMS staff will be attending, so there will be no SLL, late bus, clubs, or other activities after school that day.  All students should go home immediately after school on Wednesday.

As part of our festivities this week, there is a dance on Thursday in the main gym.  The dance is from 3:05-5:00 and all LMS students not serving ISS or OSS are encouraged to attend.  Admission is $5.00 and concessions will be available.  Students who attend the dance must be picked up by 5:15 and cannot ride the late bus.  We hope to see everyone at the dance!

The lost and found is out of bounds.  Please encourage your student to look for their missing items this week. There are hoodies, water bottles, lunch boxes, sweats, and so much more. We will be cleaning out the lost and found during winter break.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and we can’t wait to see everyone back in the new year.  We hope you enjoy quality time with family, celebration, and rest over the break.  Make it a great week!

Week of December 8

This month, we’re challenging your students to reflect on their experiences and take responsibility for how they choose to learn and grow from these experiences. We are partnering with you to grow and develop your child’s sense of responsibility. As you reflect as a family, celebrate your accomplishments, identify areas you may want to improve, and consider new ways to serve others in the days ahead. As the new year approaches, instead of writing a long list of resolutions or goals for the new year, ask each family member to focus on one word. Set aside time and ask each family member to share their word and why they chose it.  You can read more on building responsibility in this month’s CKH newsletter

Last week was filled with celebration at LMS.  We learned we were named a model professional learning community.  In a professional learning community, teachers collaborate in support of student learning and provide additional time and support for students to demonstrate and extend their learning.  We were also excited to honor Mr. Halsey on Friday.  He was named the Milken Educator of the year for Wyoming.  This is a very prestigious honor and we are all very proud of him.  If you haven’t seen it, Mr. Halsey’s reaction video is classic.  Thank you for partnering with us in support of your student and our growth as a school community.

We also celebrated the winners of our fall cake contest held in 8th grade cooking classes.  The students worked very hard on their cakes and they all were fantastic.  Emma Brant, Paige Teini, Browdy Bowlds, and Brayden Vasquez took first place with “Picnic.”  Brayton Isaak, Jace Gosar, and Pyrce Baker earned second with “The Art of the Wild” and Kayden Fredrick, Penny Kenny, Jonas Gertsch, and Will Depue were third with “Rainbow Unicorn.”

If your student is missing some of their cold weather gear, it may be in our lost and found which is filling up again at a rapid pace.  We will be clearing the lost and found out again during winter break.  Please encourage your student to look for their missing hoodies, coats, hats, and other items in the meantime.

It promises to be a busy and exciting two weeks before the winter break.  We have much to celebrate and much to do.  Thank you for sending your student to school every day ready to learn.  Make it a great week.

Week of December 1

The LMS Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm in the LMS library.  All LMS families are cordially invited to this month’s meeting tomorrow.  We will be discussing the end of the semester, school recalibration, and soliciting feedback from families.  We hope to see you there.

The arrival of more seasonal weather prompts a reminder that our school opens at 7:30 each morning. Please do not drop your student off before 7:30.  It is also important that your student dresses for the weather.  Yes, they are inside during the school day, but buses break down, fire alarms go off, and other unexpected events can occur.  We don’t want students outside in shorts in cold weather.

If your student is missing some of their cold weather gear, it may be in our lost and found which is filling up again at a rapid pace.  We will be clearing the lost and found out again during winter break.  Please encourage your student to look for their missing hoodies, coats, hats, and other items in the meantime.

It can be a bit hectic in Circle Drive before school.  If students are prepared to get out immediately and don’t wait until they are in the front spot to exit, it makes things smoother and safer for everyone. If your student takes longer to get out of the car, or needs to get large items out of the back, please pull into short-term parking so traffic can continue to flow.  Please watch this video to become a master of dropping off in Circle Drive.

I hope everyone had a restful and fulfilling Thanksgiving break.  The next three weeks are part of the crucial sprint to the end of the calendar year.  There will be a lot of crucial learning between now and winter break. Please make every effort to help your student be present every day.  It makes a difference.  Make it a great week.
